FRom a start of tieing flys for my Junior high school P.E. Teacher (early 1970' s Also restored my first bamboo in 1973) to tieing for A.K.Best in the
early 1980's to working in fly shops and Guiding in the Gunnison with stops along the way as the Head of production for Whiting Farms in the early
1990's to Working as a foundryman at Lands end Sculpture center making Bronze statuary under some of the finest wildlife sculptors in the country to
working as the Corksmith at SCOTT rods in the late 1990's has lead me to Building Mortised High performance bamboo fly rods under the name of Gnomish Rod
Works since 2000.
I also spend 6 weeks every spring as the Instuctor of the Advanced Fly Fishing Guide program at Colorado Mountain Collage. Timberline Campus, Leadville.
My goal is to build useable pieces of angling art that function at as high a level as possible. I also specialise in one of a kind formfit cases for each rod
as I feel a bamboo rod is too beautiful to just stuff in an old aluminum tube.
If interested in a rod or a bronze or any of my angling art please contact me at
